Alaska trip photos

All the writing about my trip is in the previous post.
Here are the photos. There are 20 of them, so they may take a little while to load if you're on dial-up.
WARNING: The aerial ones of the Chugach Mountains are not for the faint-hearted.

I'm back from my trip to Alaska (where I was born and grew up) and will attempt to find time to post photos. Some of the highlights are pics taken on the flight back from Valdez to Anchorage, which goes directly over one of the most beautiful and dramatic mountain ranges in Alaska.

The flight into Valdez had zero visibility and high wind, and my flight home to Honolulu from Anchorage got delayed for 15 hours because the heating system on the jet conked and they had to ferry another plane in from L.A. It was a really good dose of Now I Remember Why I Moved.

My dad, with laudable foresight, stored 4 bottles of 1982 Chateau Lafite-Rothschild in a crate in his gun closet 20 years ago. They were still there. Realizing that they now sell for about $750 each, I encouraged my mom to take them to Anchorage and sell them, but she didn't want to-- Indeed, it turned out that one of the bottles was fairly corked and another had turned rather fussy or ga-ga with age. I'm forced to report that the other two bottles were absolutely outstanding.

The purpose of my trip was to pack up the stuff I left there and want to keep before my mom moves to New Mexico. She's selling her house. If anybody is interested in a fantastic, unique piece of rural Alaskan property (house + 14.5 acres) with a creek, a guest house, a hand-built log cabin, and lots of other cool things, click for more info and a photo HERE. (It's the pic labeled Upper Tonsina.)
